About the Blog

Welcome! ‘Homeschool of the Arts‘ is one mommy’s blog about her family’s home education journey, home-making, and other mommy-related topics.

From the Author

My name is Mayling and I’m an artist married to an artist. I homeschool ourĀ  three mini artists. Our children love to paint, dance, compose music, and cook, to name a few activities.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and years of experience teaching art to children and adults.

There are so many things I love about homeschooling. My top two reasons (if I had to choose) are… one – I get to truly enjoy my kids; it’s true the years go by fast… and two… we can get as creative as we want!

I started “homeschooling” long before I knew I was homeschooling! I helped my two daughters learn to read and write before they started preschool at public schools. Every summer we continue learning by creating our own summer camp agenda of various fun and educational activities. My kids always look forward to it. But it wasn’t until March of last year that I removed them from public school and officially sent my “letter of intent” to establish a home education program.

I hope to share my talents to help you teach academics creatively (yes, math can be fun), and of course, give you ideas for art projects and tips on teaching art to your little ones.

But this site is not exclusive to homeschooled artists. Any homeschooler, schooler, or unschooler can benefit from posts about curriculum resources, recipes (my own and those of my 7-year-old), and other family-centric topics.

The Name

Homeschool of the Arts is the name we have given our home-school. We even have a mascot – the baby sea turtle!
